[ The Pashupatinath Temple is a famous and sacred Hindu temple that is located on the banks of the Bagmati River, approximately 5 km north-east of Kathmandu in the eastern part of Kathmandu Valley, the capital of Nepal. The temple serves as the seat of Pashupatinath. This temple was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage Sites's list in 1979.This extensive Hindu temple precinct is a sprawling collection of temples, ashrams, images and inscriptions raised over the centuries along the banks of the sacred Bagmati river and is included as one of the seven monument groups in UNESCO's designation of Kathmandu Valley. ]

History

Pashupatinath Temple is the oldest Hindu temple in Kathmandu. Pashupatinath Temple's existence dates back to 400 B.C. The richly ornamented pagoda houses the sacred linga or holy symbol of Lord Shiva. There are many legends describing as to how the temple of Lord Aalok Pashupatinath came to existence here.There are several complex stories involving the origins of Pashupatinath. One story goes, in brief, that Shiva and Parvati came to the Kathmandu Valley and rested by the Bagmati while on a journey. Shiva was so impressed by its beauty and the surrounding forest that he and Parvati changed themselves into deer and walked into the forest. Many spots in the Kathmandu Valley have been identified as places where Shiva went during his time as a deer. After a while, the people and gods began to search for Shiva. Finally, after various complications, they found him in the forest, but he refused to leave. More complications ensued, but ultimately Lord Shiva announced that, since he had lived by the Bagmati river in a deer's form, he would now be known as Pashupatinath, Lord of all animals. It is said that whoever came here and beheld the lingam that appeared there would not be reborn as an animal.

शिवका अनेकौ नामहरु मध्ये पशुपति पनि एक हो । ब्रह्माण्ड, चराचर जगतका प्राणीहरुको कल्याण गर्नुहुने भगवान शिव समस्त हिन्दुहरुका आराध्यदेव हुनुहुन्छ । पशुपतिनाथको परम अनुकम्पाले आयु, आरोग्य बृद्वि हुन्छ । पापकर्म गर्नेहरुको पापको क्षय गराउँदै धर्मभीरुहरुको उन्नति, प्रगति र सम्बृद्वि गराउन भगवानका वरद् हस्त सदा सर्वत्र फैलिरहेका छन् ।

अनादि कालदेखि नेपाल राष्ट्रको राजधानी काठमाडौँको अति पबित्र वाग्मती तटमा रहेको महाज्योतिर्लिङ्गि, ब्रह्माण्डकै अनुपम, अपरिमेय शिवस्वरुप शिवलिङ्ग हो । यो शिवलिङ्गका अनेकानेक रुप द्वादशज्योतिर्लिङ्गिको रुपमा भारतवर्षमा विराजित छन् । पवित्र विष्णुदेवी क्षेत्र काठमाडौँमै रहेको छ । विष्णुदेवी क्षेत्रबाट बहने पुण्यसलीला वाग्मती तटमा पवित्र श्लेषमान्तक वन पर्दछ । यो पौराणिक एवं ऐताहासिक वन हो ।

पशुपतिनाथको मन्दिर प्यागोडा शैलीमा निर्माण गरिएको छ । यहाँका सबै पुरातात्विक एवं धार्मिक विशेषताहरु प्यागोडा शैली अनुरुप रहेका पाइन्छन् । मन्दिरको दुई तले छाना सुनको मोलम्बासहित तामाको रहेको छ । यस मन्दिरमा रहेका चार मुख्य ढोकाहरु चाँदीका रहेका छन् । यस मन्दिरमा रहेको सुनको गजुर धार्मिक एवं आध्यात्मिक उच्च बिचारको प्रतीक हो । यस मन्दिरको पश्चिम ढोकामा रहेको ठूलो नन्दीको मूर्ति कासको रहेको छ । यहाँ रहेको ज्योतिर्लिङ्ग ६ फिट अग्लो छ । पशुपतिनाथको पूर्वमा वासुकीनाथ मन्दिर रहेको छ ।

पौराणिक कथानुसार महाभारतको युद्घपछि पाण्डवहरुले भगवान कृष्ण र भिष्मसँग युद्घमा आफूले आफन्तहरुको हत्या गरेकाले गोत्रहत्याको पापबाट मुक्त हुनका लागि के उपाय गर्नु पर्ला भनेर सोधेका थिए । भगवान शिवको दर्शन गरेपछि गोत्रहत्याको पापबाट मुक्त होइन्छ भन्ने कुरा कृष्णले बताएपछि पाण्डवहरु शिवजीको दर्शन गर्न हिमालयमा गए । पाण्डवहरु आएको देखेर शिव भैँसीको रुप लिई भैँसीको बथानमा लुकेका थिए । पाण्डवहरुले भैँसीरुपी भगवान शिवलाई चिनेर दर्शन गर्न नजिकै जाँदा भैँसीरुपी शिव जमिनभित्र अलप भएका थिए । यसरी शिव जमिनमा धसिंदा भैँसीरुपी शिवको पुच्छर पाण्डवले समात्दा केदारनाथमा केदारनाथ भगवान प्रकट भएका थिए । भैँसीरुपी शिवको शिर नेपालमा रह्यो । नेपालको वाग्मती तटमा पशुपतिको रुपबाट शिव प्रकट भए । यसरी पाण्डवहरुले पशुरुपी शिवको पुच्छर स्पर्श गरेर गोत्रहत्याको पापबाट मुक्त भएका थिए । पशुको रुप लिएर प्रकट भएको हुनाले भगवान शिवलाई पशुपतिनाथ भनिएको हो ।

एक अर्को कथा अनुसार भगवान शिवले मृगको रुप लिएर श्लेष्मान्तक वनमा पार्वतीका साथमा विहार गरेका थिए । पछि पार्वतीले तपस्या गरी खोजी हेर्दा नेपालको वाग्मती किनार मृगस्थलीमा शिव मृग रुप रहेर विहार गरेको थाहा पाएपछि ब्रह्मा, विष्णु र इन्द« तीनै जनाले खोजी गर्दा वाग्मती पारिपट्टी शिवलाई भेटी समात्न खोज्दा मृगवर्ण शिवको सिङ् तीन टुक्रा भएको प्रसङ्गले समेत शिवलाई पशुहरुका मालिक पशुपतिनाथ भनि सम्बोधन गरिएको हो ।

Bouddhanath Stupa

The stupa is on the ancient trade route from Tibet which enters the Kathmandu Valley by the village of Sankhu in the northeast corner and continues to the ancient and smaller stupa of Cha-bahi named Charumati Stupa (often called Little Boudhanath). It then turns directly south, heading over the Bagmati River to Lalitpur, bypassing the main city of Kathmandu (which was built later). Tibetan merchants have rested and offered prayers at Boudha Stupa for many centuries. When refugees entered Nepal from Tibet in the 1950s, many decided to live around Boudhanath. The stupa is said to entomb the remains of Kassapa Buddha.

Bajrayogini, Sankhu

Bajrayogini Temple is a Tantrik temple located at Sankhu in Nepal's Kathmandu Valley. It is also well known as Bodhisattva's Temple. The Bajrayogini Temple is situated roughly 20 kilometres northeast of Kathmandu. The area where it is located is often referred to as Gunbaha, which can be roughly translated from Newari as ‘recreational forest place’. The main temple is a three-story high building, which was obviously carefully constructed with the utmost attention to detail. You will likely find a statue of the goddess Bajrayogini in this temple which will feature a red face with three eyes as well as hands, which have the thumb and middle finger carefully, decorated. Ornaments surround her statue. . The attraction here is not only the various temples but also the many other interesting temples and caves which surrounding it – some of which are considered to be older than the temple itself.

Kathmandu Durbar Square

Kathmandu Durbar Square in front of the old royal palace of the former Kathmandu Kingdom is one of three Durbar Squares in the Kathmandu Valley in Nepal, all of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Several buildings in the Square collapsed due to a major earthquake on 25 April 2015. Patan Durbar Square

Patan Durbar Square is situated at the centre of the city of Lalitpur in Nepal. It is one of the three Durbar Squares in the Kathmandu Valley, all of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
